Frequently Asked Questions & Help

PRINTSHOP HELP

How do I buy a print from you?

Simple simple! Visit the Print Shop page. It is divided into 2 sections: Pre-Prints and Printable Designs. Find the prints you would like and click "Add to Cart" underneath them. This will add your selection to a Paypal shopping cart that will open in a new window. When finished, simply use the checkout feature in the Paypal cart window.

The pictures are really small. How can I preview the print that I am buying?

Just click on the small thumbnail or the linked title of the picture you are interested in. A larger image will pop up in a new window for you to take a look at.

What is a Pre-Print?

A Pre-Print is a printed item that I already have on-hand. These have been kept in a file and may have been taken to a convention in the past. As such, they have been gently handled, moved from plastic sleeves or bags and displayed on tables, etc. These are discounted or "convention priced" since they are not hot off the press. They also include different sizes such as 5"x7", 2"x6" 'bookmark', etc.

What is Printable Art?

Printable Art or simply a "Print" is art that has not yet been printed yet. I have digital files of these and are they are print-ready. You may request a 8.5"x11" print of these images.

I saw a piece of your art that I want printed but it's not in your gallery.

Just let me know about it by dropping me a line via the contact page and we'll talk!

Do you sell fan art?

I do, but for copyright reasons I won't mass produce prints-on-demand online. Most fan art I sell is available as "Pre-prints" which are limited in number. If you are interested in a fan art piece and would like a print, please let me know through the contact page.

Can you sell me bookmarks or stickers and stuff?

Sure, some of my Pre-Prints are stickers and bookmarks and will be indicated in the description. If you would like a non-pre-printed design on a sticker, bookmark, t-shirt, hat, etc., check out the Custom Stuff section.

How do I know that my order was received?

When payment for your selections is received, you should get an e-mail from Paypal confirming it. Also, another confirmation will be sent from shop@vilsy.net and an Order # will be provided to you. You can track the progress of your order by matching your Order # on the Order Status and Information page.

How do I know if my order was shipped?

You will receive an email from shop@vilsy.net confirming that your items have been sent. This will also be posted by Order # on the Order Status and Information page. All items will be shipped USPS Priority Mail which usually takes between 2-3 business days once received by the Post Office. A tracking number issued by the USPS will be provided in your shipping confirmation email. Please hold on to this information so you may track your items through the USPS website. Any issues with shipping after a tracking # is issued should be addressed through the USPS.

ART COMMISSION HELP

What is the commission process?

  1. Go to the commissions information page to check the rules and status of commissions (open or closed).
  2. Check the pricing page and decide which type of commission you would like and to see the prices of them.
  3. Fill out the request form as thoroughly as possible and send it in.
  4. I will respond to your request via email to confirm receipt of your request and to provide you with additional information or to clear up any questions I may have with your request. If and when all is clear, I will provide you with an Order #. Hang on to it. :)
  5. I will begin the preliminary sketch of your request. When finished, I will email you a watermarked sample which you can look over and approve or disapprove of. If you disapprove, we will discuss what needs to be changed, changes will be made, and another proof will be sent.
  6. When you approve of the sketch, I will send you an invoice via Paypal for the amount of half the value of the finished commission. (At least 50% of the total commission cost is required as a non-refundable deposit at the time of final sketch approval.)
  7. After receipt of the deposit, I will finish your commission. A small watermarked version will be emailed to you for final approval, and if you like it, I will send an invoice for the remainder of the cost.
  8. When it's all paid for, the final piece will be delivered to you, full size and un-watermarked in whichever media you requested. Enjoy!

What type of things can I commission?

Primarily I do character illustrations: sketched in pencil, inked in Adobe Illustrator and CG colored with Adobe Photoshop. These illustrations can be digital files or hard copy prints on photo paper. If you have reference of what you'd like me to draw, please send it as well! This will ensure a closer representation to what you request in my style. Prices and formats are listed my Commission Price List.

Please note: At this time I do not include backgrounds in commissions beyond a color, gradient, simple shapes & borders. Why? Because I'm just not too good with backgrounds and I want your character art to be of the best quality and finished in a timely manner. Very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

How and when can I pay?

I can accept Paypal and I am a verified. Paypal is preferable since it's a much fast payment method and I can get to work on your commission or send your purchase much sooner. You are not required to have a Paypal account in order to send payment through the service. All that is necessary is a credit or debit card or a checking account. For more information about how Paypal works, please visit their site. After you approve your preliminary sketch, I will send you an invoice via Paypal for 50% of the cost of your commission. This deposit is non-refundable and is required before I completely finish your artwork. If 2 payments is inconvenient for you, please let me know and you can pay in full at that time.

Why must I pay before you draw my commission?

Well, this is primarily because you are also purchasing the time I spent on creating your artwork, as well as for the finished product itself. I am a very honest person and have no intentions of not keeping up my end of the transaction. Nor am I mistrusting, but pre-payment ensures that I will finish your commission on a timely basis and that the requests I receive are serious ones. :)

What is included in the price for print commissions?

Print prices cover the commission service itself, the cost of professional printing on heavy cardstock photopaper, packaging and Priority mail shipping, and a digital copy of the piece.

I want to cancel my commission. How do I do that?

If for any reason you'd like to cancel your in-progress commission after you've approved the preliminary sketch, you may do so. However, if you've already paid the 50% deposit, it is non-refundable, as you've purchased the time I've put into your commission up to that point. You will receive your digital preliminary sketch and I will cancel the rest of your order. If you've paid in full at the time of your approval, I will refund 50% of your payment. Any other questions concerning this, please feel free to contact me.

What WON'T you draw?

Glad you asked that! I have rather specific skills and sadly I do have some limitations:

Realism - Not my forte in the least. Everything I do is pretty cartoony.

Backgrounds - I'm not very good at detailed backgrounds so I am not offering them in commissions at this time. If you would like a color, gradient, simple border or shaped background, please let me know in the additional comments section of the commission request form.

Mature Content / Detailed Nudity - I can do a little risque, but it's going to look cartoony (and possibly silly at that). I can't really give you a serious erotic drawing nor will I draw realistic nudity.

Extreme violence, hate based, horrendously offensive - Just bad stuff. I've never drawn it, and I can't draw it, and I won't draw it.

I'll always confer with you on the details of your request if there's something I think I cannot do completely to your expectations. I aim to please and I will be honest with my abilities.

I don't like the preliminary sketches you're sending me.

Preliminary sketches are roughs of the finished product. Even if you request a "sketch", the preliminary will be improved on before the final product is finished. That said, if we become stuck in the preliminary sketch stage, there are 2 things we can do:

  1. Please try to provide me with visual reference so I may provide you with a more accurate sketch. This could be any sort of image that better helps me understand what you want drawn.
  2. If we aren't making reasonable headway towards what you desire or you just don't like how it looks after 5 changes, I will cancel the commission and you will not be charged.

Why are your commissions closed?

It could be for a few reasons.

  1. I need a break from taking commissions. Even artists need a rest!
  2. I have already filled the max number of commission slots (2) and further requests will not be accepted until they are completed.
  3. Something terrible has happened.

More often it will be 1 or 2. :)

Can I be put on a waiting list?

Yes. Here is how the waiting list works:

Once I have filled up the commission slots, I will close down the request form. You may still request to be on the waiting list at that point by filling out the "waiting list form" with your name and email address and a brief message. I will not be able to take full information about what you want at that time. Rather, I will place you on the list in the order that I receive your message. When commissions are open again, I will send an email to the next 2 people on the waiting list informing them that commissions are open again, along with a link to the commission form. They will have 3 days to respond or to put in a request, after which their spot on the waiting list will be assumed forfiet and will go to the next people on the list and so-on until all commission requests are filled. If there is 1 person or no one on the waiting list, then the commission page will be reopened.

Who owns the artwork I purchase?

The artwork I produce itself is copyrighted to me, Vilhemina Van Berry, and cannot be altered or reproduced without my permission. If you commission a character created by yourself, then that character is your property, and I will not sell copies of any commission to anyone else without your express permission.

I received a print and it looked bad or the mail carrier wrested it from the jaws of a bulldog before delivering it. Can I return it and have my money back?

Sorry for the inconvenience! To prevent damage during shipment, all items will be packed carefully and sent in USPS Priority Mail issued packaging and marked "Do Not Bend" or similar. You are entilted to purchase optional Insurance for your shipment for an additional $2.00 per package. (Please see shipping details for more information on packaging.) Please contact me prior to your order shipment if you wish to purchase this benefit. In the event that damage does occur, returning the print is not necessary nor am I able to refund payment if Insurance was not purchased. If you have purchased Insurance for your shipment, a claim may be made to the USPS. Alternatively, you may re-purchase your 8.5"x11" commissioned print at the rate of $8 + shipping per copy.

Alternatively, we may use Fed-Ex Kinkos/Fed-Ex Office for printing and you may pick up your commissioned items from a location near you.

WEBSITE COMMISSION HELP

What is a website facelift?

If you have an existing website but are not happy with its design, I can help redesign it for you. Basically, "facelift" means I will rearrange it to better suit your needs or preferences.

There's nothing on the "Website Facelifts" page...

Yeah sorry about that. This is more of a future service... in that website commissions are not open yet. There will be an announcement when I begin to take these commissions, and the process will be further explained.
